Lata on LP —
The first time I saw Laxmikant was thanks to KL Saigal’s brother, Mahendra Saigal who took me to a concert in Bombay because he wanted to me to hear Laxmikant play mandolin. He said Laxmikant was very good and I should help the young muscian find work. Laxmikant was ten then. A few years later I met Pyarelal, when he was also about ten and played violin. When Hridaynath set up Sureela Bal Kala Kendra, my sisters Meena and Usha, along with many gifted children, including Laxmikant and Pyarelal performed in the shows. Later on, I recommended them to Shankar-Jaikishan and Ghulam Mohmmad and from 50s, they worked as musicians with these composers. They played mandolin and violin in many songs, including those of Naushad sahib and Madan Mohan ji, and later, they became assistants to Kalyanji-Anandji for many years.
