अमीरबाई कर्नाटकी हिंदी के अलावा गुजराती फिल्मों में जाना पहचाना नाम. इस पोस्ट के ज़रिये उनके कुछ कम सुने जाने वाले गीतों पर एक सरसरी नज़र !

Amirbai was endowed with a sweet fluid voice and her total mastery of classical music made her recordings give immense pleasure to the listener. It is by sheer virtue of her talent that she could break into formidable singers from Punjab and elsewhere and carve her own niche in the forties.
Amirbai turned composer for the film “Shahnaz” in 1948/49 where she sang seven solos or so and also used Rafi Saab in a solo and a duet. While the film was not a succes

That Amirbai was a highly versatile singer is undisputed. As another feather in the versatility crown, at the peak of her prowess and career, she dabbled in Gujarati film and non-film music. Some of her songs have become iconic, for instance her rendition of “vaishnav jan to” is one of the best-known.
Yet another song that achieved such a lofty status in the popular consciousness is from the film Ranakdevi (1946), with music by Avinash Vyas.

When Roshan made his debut as a music director, Amirbai’s work in Hindi films had started reducing. His debut film, Kidar Sharma’s Neki Aur Badi was the only film where she sang for him. The film was a resounding flop and a disillusioned Roshan was contemplating quitting till Kidar Sharma convinced him not to. The soundtrack of Neki Aur Badi featured 4 songs in Amirbai voice, including two fun duets with Feroz Dastur. I’m posting a solo that I haven’t seen posted on this group. A lovely romantic song with a beautiful prelude (hawaiian guitar??)…

Ameerbai Karnataki playing “Ram-Bhakt” Shabari while SN Tripathi playing “Ram-Bhakt” Pavan Putra Hanuman on screen and this song brings them together for the only time.
What is more interesting is Sudha Malhotra giving play back for Ameerbai! Kaliyo me Raam Mera from Pavan Putra Hanuman (1957)

पड़ोसन फिल्म और अमीरबाई कर्नाटकी :
फिल्म पड़ोसन के कुछ एक दृश्यों में अमीरबाई के बेहद चर्चित गीतों को कहीं ना कहीं इस्तेमाल किया गया .मिसाल के तौर पर : रतन फिल्म से ओ जाने वाले बालमवा :This song was further immortalized in Padosan when guru (Kishore) asks bhola (Sunil) if he knows a film song and this is the song he sings , then they quickly practice playback singing (mere saamne wali khidki…)
इतना ही नहीं फिल्म पड़ोसन के आखरी दृश्य में जब सायरा बानो सुनील दत्त से विवाह कर लेती हैं , तो महमूद अपनी शेहनाई पर इसी गीत (मिलके बिछड गयीं अखियाँ ) की धुन छेड़ अपने ग़म का इज़हार करते हैं .ये रहा वो दृश्य
