लक्ष्मीकांत प्यारेलाल के साथ पहला गीत रफ़ी साहब ने रिकॉर्ड किया था फिल्म छैला बाबू में .पर फिल्म की रिलीज़ में देर होने से फिल्म पारसमणि का गीत एक तरह से उनका पहला गाना माना जाता है ! जबकि देखा जाये तो पहला गीत था .
‘तेरे प्यार ने मुझे ग़म दिया , तेरे ग़म की उम्र दराज़ हो ‘
Chhaila Babu (1967) whose production began in early 60s by some low budgeted & poor producer-directors. They hired some unknown faces as actors (Subbiraj & Naaz Rehman) & similarly they luckily appointed a MD duo known as Laxmikant-Pyare Lal. This was LP’s 1st movie as MD. Also luckily the genius Rafi sahab, the leading singer of that era helped them out & blessed LP for their bright future & didn’t charge even a single penny for this song. This has been admitted by Pyare Lal ji in his interviews.

The movie as expected was released 5 yrs later in 1967 after a marathon production & it flopped & this gem of a song didn’t see the light of the day in the general public except the class music lovers. But the fact remains that this song was the 1st Rafi song that was recorded by LP. Also a recall, the 2 lines of the sher of a song of ”Aas Paas” recorded by LP, proved to be the last song of Rafi..
Asad Bhopali penned down the soulful lyrics of this song & Rafi’s velvet voice have just carressed each syllable with extremes of pathos & feel. And the magic of this number is solely attributable to Rafi’s vocals & A. Bhopali’s lyrics. In the lyrics rather than cursing the deceiver, he is blessing her with all the fortunes. The picturization of the song simply appears a bit bizarre to me by the fact that the deceiver is shown smiling at places while he is melancholically singing the song in front of her.
